St. Andrews African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in Buffalo, New York, on April 23, 1982. Rev. Clara M. Castro was commissioned to establish a new congregation and to continue the work of the A.M.E. Church in the Buffalo area.

Accepting this charge, Rev. Castro led the formation of St. Andrews and guided its early development. Under her leadership, “The Rainbow Center,” a self-help organization, was established as an extension of the church’s ministry and commitment to community uplift.

 The congregation grew to approximately eighty members during its early years. Though the church was later closed, its witness remains part of the continuing story of African Methodism in Buffalo.

Through its founding and ministry, St. Andrews reflected the enduring mission of the A.M.E. Church—to serve, to uplift, and to carry the work forward wherever called.
